NYO Internship Interview

It is now almost the end of my second semester and thus first year of college. I started with programming in my first semester via introduction to programming course (ESC101).

And it got me so much excited that I decided to take things my own hands and so I did - Starting of this blog.

Getting too deep into the programming stuff, I have left my academics back, sadly, the courses don’t interest me right now. And it is definitely reflected in my CPI (oh well). Current semester is also not going very good but I’ll pick up in the end semester exams, the classic hope that I will nail the next exams.

At this point, another thought plagues my mind which is to find something to do for the summer. I am also looking into multiple GSoC organizations but not very hopeful there right now since I haven’t contributed anything 😅

I have picked up a project on Ethical Hacking for the summer offered by our Programming Club, but I am still looking for something more because I am pretty sure it will not keep me fully occupied.

I heard about a group of “Hackers” in our college from some of my seniors and batchmates, and there was an internship being offered by IITK’s New York Office (NYO). Many of the seniors I admire are or have been part of it.

I applied for it and got shortlisted for the interview.

My interview was taken by two of my seniors - Adarsh and Shivansh. This did not feel like an interview at all, more like a discussion amongst intellectuals and techie nerds 😅

They had mostly discussed the projects I had worked on like creating Student Search in Bash and learning I had gained since my first semester.

They also grilled me on workings of the Linux since I have been working on Linux From Scratch.

All in all, it was a great experience and they really liked the fact that I had worked so much on understanding systems in depth. Finally I was selected for the infra team.

This was my first internship, Yay!!

#nyointern17 Yay! You are selected for The Internship!

PS

To be honest, Adarsh is one of the rare people I have met in my life who has so much knowledge about almost any field of Computer Science along with being a great teacher, and I feel great about having him as my mentor.
